THE RULE OF THREE

If I take the wings of the dawn, If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, Even there Your hand will lead me, And Your right hand will lay hold of me. Psalm 139:9-10 Ruppell's griffon vulture is known for being one of the highest-flying species of birds, being seen at the same altitude as an airplane at 37,000 feet. One of the deepest known species of the ocean is the Marina snailfish found five miles down. So these two creatures can be a distance of twelve miles from each other. On land, that does not seem too far, yet when speaking of heights and depths, it is monumental. The pressure alone would kill a human being at a depth of the Marina snailfish, as well as the lack of oxygen at the lofty heights of the Ruppell's griffon vulture. Psalm 139:9-10 tells us that even these extreme heights and depths cannot separate us from the hand of God. It is a poetic description of the mighty love of God reaching out to us. The preceding verse uses another analogy, "If ...

THE POWER OF HIS RESURRECTION

The righteousness that I have comes from knowing Christ, the power of his resurrection, and the participation in his sufferings… Philippians 3:10 The risen Savior was on this earth for 40 days and was seen by more than 500 people before He ascended into heaven. Many of these not only saw Him but heard Him speak. Paul did not actually see Jesus ascend into heaven, but even Paul in His disbelief came to believe. Paul was a fanatical foe to anyone professing Jesus Christ as the risen Messiah. He was one of the many responsible for trying to annihilate the Christian faith, but on the road to Damascus, He encountered Christ. Paul was not one of the original disciples who had the privilege to have tutelage under Jesus, so there would be no reason for him to make up this story. Paul’s life was changed forever because of the resurrected Christ. His mission now did a complete turnaround from killing Christians to building the Christian church. He did not gain any money or ...

THE LOVE OF GOD

I will sing of the LORD's loyal love forever. I will proclaim your faithfulness with my own mouth from one generation to the next. Psalms 89:1 I enjoy the new worship music, but I must say, I still have a great love for the old hymns. Some may think me old-fashioned, but the melodies and the lyrics to these hymns make my heart swell. One song of which I am especially fond is The Love Of God . As I write these lyrics penned by Frederick M. Lehman, I want my readers to ponder these words from Verse 1: The love of God is greater far Than tongue or pen can ever tell; It goes beyond the highest star, And reaches to the lowest hell; The guilty pair, bowed down with care, God gave His Son to win; His erring child He reconciled, And pardoned from his sin. We could never write nor tell enough to fully convey the knowledge of God’s love for us. John 3:16 tells us that God loved the world, and Romans 5:8 says that God demonstrated that love to us. While we were in our sinful...
