HIS LOVE ENDURES FOREVER

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever. Psalms 136:1

There are 26 verses in Psalms 136, each ending with, "His love endures forever." This author wanted to bring home a point of God's perfect, all-consuming, merciful lovingkindness.

If we could grasp the significance of God's love for us, we would probably change many of our attitudes, habits, agendas, and activities. Living in God's love would fill our hearts with thanksgiving. It would help us keep the unity of the Spirit, have empathy for each other, be more forgiving, and fill our hearts and minds with a spirit of rejoicing.

We are not immune to life without turmoil, distress, sickness, and daily annoyances. If we could only learn to appreciate (not like, “oh, that's nice”), but inwardly make sense of the goodness of God through His everlasting merciful love for us, God's light would erase all the dark, hidden places that sap us of our true self in Christ.

Twenty-six times in the New International Version of Psalm 136, it states, "His love endures forever." However, they are not merely words, but words put to action in all of creation and our redemption through Jesus Christ. If we could just vaguely perceive and believe with the size of a mustard seed that, "His love endures forever," we might learn to love God, ourselves, and others. Driven by the force of God's love through us, we would change our protective barrier to His outward response of grace.

Let's close our eyes to our adversities, others' diversities, our self-erected walls of defensive animosities. Instead, we let God's eyes of love see through our eyes to help us live out God's love in faith. Soon, His passion will become ours as our hearts overflow with thanksgiving.

Thank you, Father God! Even when I fail you on so many levels, your steadfast love never fails me. This love is better than life itself; therefore, I will praise you. Amen.
