LIVING THE EXPERIENCE OF GOD

Because of this, neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but the only one who is anything is God who makes it grow...We are God’s coworkers, and you are God’s field, God’s building. 1 Corinthians 3:7,9

Many years ago, we had a guest evangelist come to preach at our church. He acquired the nickname "The Walking Bible" because he had several books of the New Testament memorized. I do not remember his real name, but I know it was not Dr. Johnny James or Jack Van Impe. I am amazed by people who can quote scripture and location with ease.

The average Christian may only have a handful of scriptures memorized, and he or she should not feel bad. Although head knowledge is terrific, living the experience of God is much more crucial. It would be excellent to have both head and heart knowledge; however, most growth comes from living out the word, not just speaking memorized words. It is possible to be the most learned Biblical scholar in the world, but miss the mark of Christ-experience living.

Paul admitted in 1 Corinthians 3:7 that Apollos and he were merely planters and waterers of the seed. He said that God was responsible for making the seed grow. The Bible, with its miraculous works of Jesus, is a mystery to us. We may never fully comprehend with our intellectual minds this mystery of God, but when we rest in an experience of spiritual oneness with Him, His wisdom will penetrate our heads and our hearts and will shine out through our actions. We will live in unity with God, thus live out God's love, life, and belief, and intellect.

Experiencing God may bring to light a Christ-experience to others. My parents used to say, "Actions speak louder than words." We can show Christ through our actions, and we can use scripture to back up our words. We can sow the seed, but the growth belongs to God. We are each a product of God's work; however, we can skew His work, or we can align ourselves to be a walking display of one who is living the experience of God.

Help me, Christ Jesus, to fully live each day in an experience with you. Amen.
