MY GOD, WHY?

And at the ninth hour, Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? Which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?  Mark 15:34

When trials and tribulations mount around you, have you ever cried out to the Lord, “My God, why have you left me in this mess?” All you can see is the ugliness, the pain, the problems, and the sorrow. You see no way out, and you have been crying for help from above for a long time.

Maybe, it’s time to give up. Jesus gave Himself up to His mission of love when He gave Himself to this earth and to the cross. Verse 37 said, “And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost,” or in other words, He took His last breath. He accomplished His task.

Do you honestly believe that God, for one moment, took His eyes off His Son on the cross? You see, in His Son, the very blood of God Himself was being poured out. Why did Jesus ask the Father, “Why have you forsaken me?” We may never know, but we must remember, Jesus was fully human, yet God. He did not know all things in His human body. He even said about His return in Matthew 24:36, “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.”

God could not forsake His Son because He was in the Son, and the Son was in Him. God has not forsaken you either because God is in you through Jesus. Read John 17:20-23. He knows the entire situation before you and has a plan. The Lord may lift you immediately from your suffering or may provide a long rope for you to pull your way out slowly. This much I do know; He loves you and cares for you so much more than you will ever understand. Giving up to God does not mean that you are passive. You are actively choosing to rest in God’s love. You can finally relax in the arms of the one who values you with His life. Do you think for one moment that God could forsake Himself in you?

Help me always to remember that I am precious in Your eyes. For that very reason, I can trust you in all things. Thank you, Father God. Amen.
