THE PRESENT OF HIS PRESENCE

By day the Lord commands his faithful love; by night his song is with me—a prayer to the God of my life. Psalms 42:8

Do you feel at times that God has deserted you? Maybe you are angry with God, or worse yet, you feel apathy. You care not whether He is there or not, and you honestly do not want His help or His opinion. Being in an apathetic state of mind is a dangerous place to be, and I believe most of us have experienced neutrality or an indifferent attitude towards God at one time or another.

The writer of Ecclesiastes said, “God made us plain and simple, but we have made ourselves very complicated.” Do we complicate our lives by analyzing our situations? Can we understand the fundamental truth of this: love remains constant even if we do not feel it. God is love, and God remains. He has given us the present of His continuous presence.

We need to be still and know in our hearts that the exalted one of all the nations, the Creator and Sustainer, the God of love will fight for our peace, our hope, and our love. He will never leave us. We feel apathy because we are looking the wrong way. Corrie ten Boom said, “Look around and be distressed; look within and be depressed; look at Jesus and be at rest.”

Don’t let your feelings get in the way of the truth. The truth is, God is right here, right now. He was here in the beginning and will be to the very end. Be still and listen. Even when the worst is happening in your life, the best remains, and the very best is yet to be. “I believe that the present suffering is nothing compared to the coming glory that is going to be revealed to us.” Romans 8:18  In the stillness of your heart, grasp that truth of His faithful love. Grasp the song of His love inside you. Grasp that He is your very life. Soon you will also grasp His present, which is the knowledge of His presence.

Help me, Lord, to be still and know of your presence in my life. Through Christ Jesus, I pray, Amen.
