For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
2 Corinthians 4:17-18
Right now there is a mother who is weary and worn. She has been up all night caring for a sick child. She is bone tired, and she still has dinner to cook, followed by washing dishes, baths to give, and laundry to fold. What she really wants is to soak in a hot tub, turn her mind off, and snuggle down with a good book. There is no time for that. She will be lucky to even get a shower before she falls into bed.
Right now there is a man working endless hours with seldom any accolades for his efforts. He is finishing a project with several left to accomplish. There are too little hours in his day. His boss has been chiding him and he feels the stress of his job. He still has a long commute home, children who want attention, and a wife that is starving for adult conversation.
Right now there is a child who really wants to tell her mom something important, but she has been told, “Not right now.” She is bored of television and angry at her agitating brother. She yells in her frustration and is sent to her room. She sulks and thinks to herself, “It’s not fair. No one cares.”
Does this sound like your family at times? It is not unusual for families to be tired, overworked, stressed, unappreciated, unheard, angry, and lonely. Sometimes we feel as if life is just not fair, and no one really cares.
But, the Bible tells us that right now there is someone who loves you, who appreciates you, who wants to listen, and who really cares about what you have to say. Right now there is someone who wants to carry your burdens to make your load lighter. Right now this someone sees and hears the groaning of your heart, and He has compassion for you. He sees the little things you do, like changing diapers and finishing your report without cutting corners. He sees you juggle the baby on your hip and taking out time to read a story to the children. He knows that life can sometimes be unfair, but He will help you grow to be a better person. Right now that someone is Christ Jesus.
This time will pass all too quickly, and if you have stayed the course God has designed for you, you will come out victoriously on the other side. We need to turn our eyes away from temporal things that are weighing us down with anxiety, and keep our eyes on the prize of Jesus. We must always remember; Right now--is not forever!
Dear Father in Heaven, Come and help me to have the strength to carry on another day. Through Christ Jesus I pray, Amen.
