WHO CARES?

Look on my right hand and see—there is no one who takes notice of me; no refuge remains to me; no one cares for me.  Psalm 142:4

Have you ever sat in a room full of people, yet felt utterly alone? Have you ever walked down the street with your heart so heavy that you can’t seem to understand why people are laughing and smiling when your world is falling apart? Have you ever attended a church service seeking solace, yet you are met with alienation?

I think even the most positive, outgoing person will feel this at one time or another in his/her life. It is not pleasant, to say the least. On the other end of the scope, it can become debilitating, as we sink into a feeling-sorry-for-myself attitude.

David wrote Psalm 142:4 during one of those times in his life. Running from the wrath of Saul, David  was living alone in a cave. He had every right to sulk, yet he found a positive outlet by writing. I am sure he never imagined that his songs and poems would be passed down from generation to generation for all the world to see.

When we are feeling dejected,  there are positive strategies to help. If you are in a room full of people, even though it may feel uncomfortable, get up and say, “Hello,”  to one person. If you are feeling deep sorrow, try to focus on one wonderful blessing that brings you joy. If you are in church, find your solace in God, not in people. Let His voice speak the words you need to hear. Moments when we are in the lowest times of our lives,  God blesses us with our greatest creativity. Use this creativity as an outlet to bring glory to God. This is exactly what David did as he felt all alone in that cave.

David was not alone though, and deep in his heart he knew it. God was right there with him. We too, are never, ever alone. Although we cannot see God and we may have feelings of forlornness, we are never abandoned or forsaken. During these times our ears are more tuned to His Holy Spirit, speaking words of direction. If we follow these directions, we will feel His presence. Never adopt the lie that no one cares-- God cares so much that His heart was broken for you. He loves you with an everlasting love.

Dear Father, At times when I ask, “Who cares?” You whisper in my ear, “I do!” Thank you. Amen
