BEING TEMPTED

Great blessings belong to those who are tempted and remain faithful!   James 1:12
We all face temptations on a daily basis. Finding the strength to refrain can at times, be easily obtained, and then other times, very difficult. We are in this battle of wanting to do right, but sometimes wrong is so much more appealing.
Forming new habits can help. If we decide we want to add one new habit to our life that makes us stronger in the Lord, we can focus on that for 60 days. This is the approximate time it takes to form a new habit. A habit is something you can grasp onto, unlike willpower which ebbs and flows.
Maybe our one new habit is to rise thirty minutes earlier in the morning to read the Bible and pray. A new habit can be to take your walking shoes to work, and on your lunch break put them on, take a walk, put your earphones in, and listen to the Bible. Do that for 60 days and a new habit is formed.
The decision is up to the individual as to what is most important. If disorganization is leading to stress, which leads to giving into temptation, then maybe the new habit is 30 minutes of organization while listening to a Bible lesson.
When we make a list of decided habits that will grow us in the Lord, including helping our bodies, which are the temple of God, then we'll have a little more strength to remain faithful when we are tempted. Adding only one new habit at a time, makes the process doable.
Jesus resisted temptation when He was in the wilderness for 40 days, fasting and praying. With Him in us, we too can tap into that power of remaining faithful to the end. Form a new habit that helps you to grow in the Lord, and you will receive great blessings from your effort.
Dear Lord, Show me the new habit I can form, to bring me closer to you. Help me to stand strong when I am tempted. In Christ I pray, Amen.
