“Can you
compare me to anyone? No one is equal to me. You cannot understand everything
about me. There is nothing like me.”
Isaiah 46:5
Isaiah 46 goes on to say in verses 6 and 7, “Some people are
rich with gold and silver. Gold falls from their purses, and they weigh their
silver on scales. They pay an artist to make a false god from wood. Then they
bow down and worship that false god. They put their false god on their
shoulders and carry it. That false god is useless; people have to carry it!
People set the statue on the ground, and it cannot move. That false god never
walks away from its place. People can yell at it, but it will not answer. That
false god is only a statue; it cannot save people from their troubles.”
Maybe our hope is placed in something less obvious than a
statue, but nevertheless, we have placed our hope in something. It could be our
accomplishments, our children’s accomplishments, our status at work, at church,
or in the community. Maybe our hope is in our spouse, money, home, car,
properties, job, or our physique. We may
not get down on our knees before these things, but our hope is still misplaced
in thinking these things will give us worth and true joy.
The Bible tells us there is only one true God. In Him, we
should place all our hope and trust. Because nothing or no one can compare to
Him, even our minds can’t fathom all His glory. Money, jobs and people can fail
us. Our children can disappoint us. Our material possessions can be wiped out
in one natural disaster. Our toned bodies can fail in health, youthfulness, or
strength. Our diamonds and gold cannot answer us, when we call out for help.
Our material possessions are dead weights that we have to carry, on the other
hand, the true God, carries us on His shoulders.
God the Father, The Alpha and Omega is the one and only true
God. No person or thing is equal to Him. His greatness is far beyond our
understanding. Yet He humbled Himself to become a man, by the name of Jesus. He
was on a human level; feeling pain, rejection, sorrow, happiness, temptation
and even death. He did this out of love for us. What material possession or
wooden statue could ever boast of this?
Our bodies, children, and possessions are blessings from
God, but they were never meant to replace God. We must always remember that
“things,” are not God, but God the Father, is the creator of “things.” We
should always be grateful for our many blessings, but hope placed in anything
other than God is a false hope. Hope only and always, in Him because, this is a
hope that will never fail.
God of Hope,
Thank you for your blessed hope that never
fails. Help us to never place our hope in anything other than you.
