A friend of mine posted on a social media website, “My sweet
husband is an ophthalmologist. Today he cured a patient's chief complaint of
blurred vision by cleaning their glasses!” I got a chuckle out of this, but at
the same time felt a little sorry for the patient, who unknowingly had a
solution right at their fingertips. I think at times we all are walking around
with blurry vision, muffled hearing, and dulled senses and we are unaware that the
cure may be very simplistic.
When we come to a realization that Jesus Christ was God in
the flesh, He died on the cross, and He rose from the dead, we make a decision.
Do we accept or reject Jesus on a personal level? If we accept His gift of
salvation, we want to know Him better. We are enthusiastic in our new-found
faith. We read the Bible, meet with other Christians, pray and just like a
sponge; soak up the Lord.
As time goes by, we may start to lose some of the enthusiasm
we once knew. Life and challenges get in the way of our devotion. Many times
God is no longer in the spotlight of our life. He becomes more of an
afterthought. We know He is there and run to Him when in need, but the joy of
our salvation is gone. Life’s problems sucked out all the joy; our glasses are
becoming dim.
When we come back to God in prayer
and seek forgiveness, God is willing and waiting. He knows we haven’t been
talking, walking and spending time with Him. He sees our harried lives with all
the turmoil, yet He continues to patiently love and wait for us. When we come
back to him in repentance, then we can ask Him to help renew His spirit within
us. Ask for a real joy in being able to come before Him. He will guide us back
into His word and there we will hear from Him again.
We must remember though, that no
matter how much we try to clean the lenses of our life, we still see Him only
in part, not the whole. Someday, we will see Him, face to face. We will see
clearly the radiant face of God Almighty and will be in awe. It will be more
wonderful than our earthly minds, eyes, and ears can imagine. The dim lenses
will be removed to reveal His glory and to see ourselves as God sees us. In the
meantime, as we walk this Christian path, we must keep our lenses as clean as
possible, so that others can see Jesus in our eyes.
Dear Father,
Thank you for our physical and
spiritual eyes. Let my life be an example of you.
In the name of Jesus,
Amen
