I NEED YOU MORE

Jesus said to him, “ You shall love the Lord your God
with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.” Matthew 22:37 (MEV)
Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone
loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. 1 John 2:15 (NIV)
I just heard a wonderful song that was very thought
provoking. The name of the song was, “I Need You More.” As the singer poured out her heart of praise
the words were telling of how she needed the Lord more than the song she was
singing, more than each breath, each heartbeat or anything else. It made me think: How much do we really need the Lord? Do we need Him more than our job, money,
spouse, friends and family?
My mother told me a story regarding my brother when he was
around 2-3 years old. He was extremely
sick with a dangerously high fever that would not subside. Mom was sure he was
dying. She laid in bed with him, cooling
his brow and was earnestly pleading with God, saying, “God please heal my
son. He is my only boy. I don’t know what I would do without him. You
can’t take him away from me.” Finally
around 4 a.m., weary and worn in surrender she prayed, “God, all night I have
been praying for what I want not allowing for what you might want. I am sorry Lord and I release him to you. If you want to take him, I submit to your
will. You know I love him but I know you
love him more and you will do what is best.”
Mom had made that decision that she needed God more, more than even her
precious baby boy. She needed God to do
it His way, not hers. By morning my
brothers’ fever was gone.
On some level every day we make that decision. How much do we need the Lord?
Dear Heavenly Father,
I come before you with a grateful heart and with my love and
devotion. However, at times I am not
sure I place you first in my life. Help
me to always realize that without you, I would be nothing. Forgive me for letting doubt and fear control
me. If the time comes, I ask for the
power of your Holy Spirit to testify though me that I need you more than
anything!
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
