HIDE AND SEEK
Written by: Jenny

Then they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the
garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the
presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. The Lord God called to
the man and said to him, “Where are you?”
Genesis 3: 8-9 (MEV)
Have you ever done something you knew was wrong, and you
just wanted to hide? One day my brother
told me, “Uh oh! You are in
trouble. Your report card is bad. Just
wait till mom and dad get home!” I was
so young, I could not read my grades. I
did not understand it. But, I knew one
thing, I would be in big trouble when mom and dad got home. So, I hid. I climbed under my bed and nervously waited
for mom and dad’s arrival. When they came
home, they found me and coaxed me out of my hiding place. My mischievous
brother was playing a trick! My grades
were fine.
However, there have been times I have made very poor
decisions and I really did want to hide. The problem is, you can’t really run from your acts. Actions always have a consequence. Adam and Eve wanted
to hide also when they ate of the tree which God had commanded them not to
eat. They should have known that they
could not hide from the God who created their surroundings. Adam and Eve were tempted and picked the
wrong option. As a result, the ripple effect is that we are all feeling the
ramifications of their one act of disobedience.
Why do we hide when we sin? Is it shame? Fear? Guilt? God
already sees our actions so hiding does not resolve the problem. When we hide, He will seek and find us. Turning
around, and going to Him and admitting our sin is the best plan of action. I know that the longer I try to hide, it just
makes it that much harder to admit my errors. Trying to cover up my sin usually just lead to another becoming like a growing cancer of error and guilt. Hiding causes an immobilization of our spiritual walk. God provided a solution to sin by giving His Son who bore the repercussion of
our moral conduct. Don’t hide. Seek
Him, When we do, He is waiting with open arms of love and forgiveness. Then we are free.
Dear Creator,
Thank you for knowing and loving us despite all our faults
and mistakes. Help us to come out of our
hiding places and seek you for forgiveness.
In Your Name,
Amen
