COMFORT ZONE

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but
you shall meditate on it day and night that you may observe to do according to
all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then
you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of
good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your
God is with you wherever you go.
Joshua 1: 8-9 (NKJV)
When she was only 16 her dad let her use his car to drive to
a school function. Because of her
inexperience, when she pulled away from the parking spot she made a misjudgment
and scraped the entire side of her dad’s shiny new yellow car. When she got home she was afraid to tell him
but plunged right in and gave him the bad news.
Her dad was kind but she could see the disappointment in his face. She
developed a fear of driving and would hate it if her mom made her drive somewhere,
especially if she had to drive alone, but her mother knew what was best and
made her do it. Eventually, by driving
several times she gained confidence that if she was careful and kept her eyes
focused on the road all would be well.
Through my life I have had times of being in the
“uncomfortable zone” and I was and that girl who was pushed by her mom to drive
that yellow car. When I feel insecure
about the task God has asked me to do, I remember Philippians 4: 13 “I can do
all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
I have claimed that verse many times. Peter stepped out of his comfort
zone when He walked on the water to Jesus.
Peter did fine until he took his gaze off Jesus and focused on the situation
around himself. God knows what is best
for us and sometimes we need a little nudge.
The more we step out in faith to do His work we will gain confidence as
we keep our eyes focused on Him.
Dearest Father,
Thank-you for giving us your promises in the Bible. Help us to meditate on it and look to you for
guidance. Give us courage to do your
work. Thank-you for being with us
wherever we go, even into the uncomfortable zone.
In Your Sons' Name,
Amen
