A REFLECTION OF GOD |

God, having spoken in former times in fragmentary and varied
fashion to our forefathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken
to us by a Son whom he appointed to be the heir of everything and through whom
he also made the universe. He is the reflection of God’s glory and
the exact likeness of his being, and he holds everything together by his
powerful word. After he had provided a cleansing from sins, he sat down at the
right hand of the Highest Majesty and became as much superior to the angels
as the name he has inherited is better than theirs. Hebrews 1: 1-4 (ISV)
What do you see when you look in the mirror? Many times I do not like what a see. Maybe my
nose is just not right or my hair looks funny or I have crooked teeth. We can be so critical of ourselves.
Our pastor one time, told of a story of a young teenage girl
who was extremely homely due to a disfigurement, however she was surrounded by
many friends. When someone asked why she
was so popular, the answer was that she was so nice. Her friends did not see her flawed face
because it was what she possessed on the inside that made her beautiful.
This stunning photograph taken by a dear friend, Greg
Mellen, is a great example of reflection. Even the light reflecting on the
mountain top is seen in the water. Jesus
was a perfect reflection also, of the exact likeness of God’s glory. God’s gift of grace through faith in Jesus
Christ makes us His children and benefactors. When we belong to Christ the
Bible says that it’s no longer ourselves but Christ who lives in us. We are His hands and His feet as we reach out
to a world that is hurting and give His hope, comfort and love.
Instead of
being critical of ourselves we should remember that we were created in God’s
image. When we belong to Christ, all that we say and do should be a reflection
of Him. So it truly is what we possess
on the inside that counts, and if we are the reflection of Christ, then we must
be very beautiful indeed!
Our Beautiful Lord and Savior,
Thank-you for making us in your image. Forgive us for being critical of ourselves
when you made us perfect by your sacrifice. Help us to always be a reflection
of you.
In Jesus’ Name I pray,
Amen
