A MASTERPIECE OF GOD

The skies were made by the LORD’s word, all their starry multitude by the breath of his mouth. He gathered the ocean waters into a heap; he put the deep seas into storerooms. All the earth honors the LORD; all the earth’s inhabitants stand in awe of him. Psalm 33:6-8

When we think of nature, I'm sure we can all agree that this universe is. . . Well, there are many words of description one might recall: breath-taking, magnificent, astonishing, stunning, inspiring, captivating, beautiful, dazzling, and even frightening. Yet all these terms cannot fully grasp any characterization of the awesome creation of God. In Psalm 139, the Psalmist wrote that he was "wonderfully and fearfully made," but the hands of love wonderfully and fearfully made all things.

We praise God for the mountain peak capped in snow. We glorify the Father for the refreshing rain after a drought. We applaud Him for the breeze bending the wheat as strands of hair flowing in the wind. We thank God for the pleasing taste of a crisp, juicy apple and the sound of the bird singing a tune on our windowsill. We are in awe of God as we stand over His deep ravine of bottomless wonders.

We swell with goosebumps when a lyrical voice fills the room or contemplate the dynamics of a butterfly as we imagine floating effortlessly on the air currents. Supplying our nostrils with the glorious scent of a rose, we inhale deeply to fill our lungs. With mouths agape in wonder, we watch a magnificently painted sky at sunset. The ocean seems endless as we ponder the creatures of the deep. We sigh with relief when our fretful baby falls to sleep, and we can't help but laugh when we hear the delightful giggle of a toddler.

We not only live inside God's brilliant showpiece, but we are a living, breathing, touching, seeing, and hearing work of God's hands. There are no words to portray God's superb production aptly. He is excellent in all His ways. Take a deep breath! With eyes open, see; With eyes closed, visualize! With ears open, hear; With ears closed, listen! With hands, touch; With a mind, meditate! Bask in the warmth of God's sunshine of love smiling down upon you, His beautiful, glorious masterpiece.

Thank you, Father God, for all of your glorious creation. Amen.
