THE DEADLINE

A man’s days are numbered. You know the number of his months. He cannot live longer than the time You have set. Job 14:5

We all know what a deadline is. A deadline marks a specific date and time where something must be accomplished or completed. We all have experienced deadlines in various forms: school papers, business reports, taxes, tests, court filings, projects, closings, etc. Sometimes we place deadlines on personal things we want to accomplish, but have we ever considered that because our days are numbered, that our whole life is based on a deadline?

The day we take our last breath is quite literally our “dead-line.” We have certain things that need to be accomplished in our short time on earth. The first and most important thing we need to accomplish before we die is to ask Christ to come into our hearts. He will forgive us of our sins and make us new. The second thing we need to accomplish is to allow Christ to work on us to mold us into His likeness. Third, we need to do the work of Christ by sharing Him with others.

God has blessed us with abilities, and even in our disabilities, He can accomplish His work through us. We just need to be His willing vessels. Each day we need to ask, “What task do you have for me today dear Lord?” We should count it as a privilege to be His workman, His eyes, His arms, His legs, and His voice. He commands us to love Him and love others. Surely this is not to great a task for us to accomplish. We only need to be a conduit of His love in us.

Our days are numbered, and we have a deadline. When we are ready to step out into eternity, will we be able to look back and know that we accomplished all the things God had planned for us to accomplish? Our deadline may be sooner than we think. We need to work each day as if it were our last.

Dear Lord, What task have You for me today and all my tomorrows? Help me to do Your work. Through Christ I pray, Amen.
