GOD'S WILL

Don’t be conformed to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds so that you can figure out what God’s will is—what is good and pleasing and mature.  Romans 12:2

Knowing the will of God can sometimes feel like a guessing game. I have even at times asked God, “Please make the choice obviously clear”; however, I don’t always get that obvious revelation to my request. I am eventually forced to opt, and down the road I may find my choice was not the best. God always takes my mistakes and helps me learn from them. He is so patient, kind, and loving.

There are guidelines we can use to strategically separate our options into categories. By using a mash-up of scripture from Romans 12:1-2 and Colossians 3:12-17, it might look like this.

First: We must present our body, heart, and soul to the Lord Jesus Christ. We then have the Holy Spirit abiding inside us to help us with our decisions. A list without God is not as effective as one with Him guiding us.
Second: The Holy Spirit works in us to be compassionate, kind, humble, meek, and patient. Do the options before us fit this criteria?
Third: Is the option based on revenge or on forgiveness? Is our motivation one of love of Christ and others?
Fourth: Are we making an option that conforms us to Christ or to the world?
Fifth: Does the option have the potential to bring others to Christ? Is it glorifying to Him, or are we glorifying ourselves?
Sixth: Are we willing to give God gratitude and praise for the choice we make, or is it a choice that makes us shameful?

When we belong to Christ, we are in a priestly service to the world, for Him. We need to make sure we are in His will, seeking His will, and staying in His will. Proverbs 3:6 says, Listen for
God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; He’s the one who will keep you on track. As we walk in His path of holiness, we have all the tools we need to be make choices that bring honor to Him. If we do make a bad choice and we fall, God is there to pick us up, dust us off, and help us to start back over again.

Blessed Redeemer, Help me to make choices that lets Your will be done, here on earth, just as it is in heaven. Amen
